Built around the fire

Everything here exists to put molten glass in your hands — safely, and without pretension.

The 2,100°F Furnace

Our main furnace holds a full melt of crystal around the clock, so you can take a gather whenever the itch strikes — no warm-up, no waiting.

Hands-On Master Guidance

Twelve resident blowers with decades at the pipe. Every session pairs you with a master who works at your shoulder, not across the room.

Annealed to Last

Every piece rides our annealers through a slow 48-hour cool, so what you blow today keeps its temper for decades.

From gather to anneal

Three movements, one ancient rhythm — you'll run all of them in your first session.

  1. 01

    Gather

Dip the blowpipe into the crucible and wind molten glass onto its nose, turning steadily so the gather stays centered.

  2. 02

    Shape

Block, pad, and marver the gather at the bench, swinging through the glory hole for heat between every pass.

  3. 03

    Anneal

Knock the finished piece into the annealer at 900°F, where a two-day cool locks its strength in for good.

Word from the bench

What makers say after their first taste of the furnace.

Rated 5 out of 5

"I came in unable to hold a pipe level. Three sessions later I blew my first vase, and my instructor cheered louder than I did."

"Member nights are the best part of my week. Real furnaces, real masters, zero pretension — and a cabinet full of experiments to show for it."

"We booked the private hot shop for our anniversary and each blew a tumbler. A year on, they're still the first glasses we reach for."

Before you book

The questions we hear at the furnace door.

Do I need any experience?

None at all. Over half our first-timers have never touched hot glass. A master stays with you from first gather to knock-off — bring only steady curiosity.

Is there an age minimum?

Bench spots start at 12 with a guardian on the floor. For private events we can host younger makers as helpers at the marver — just tell us when you book.

What should I wear?

Closed-toe shoes and natural fibers only: cotton, denim, or linen. Synthetics melt near the glory hole, so skip the fleece. We provide cotton aprons and didymium safety glasses.

When can I pick up my piece?

Glass needs a full 48 hours in the annealer, so pieces blown today are ready the day after tomorrow. We hold finished work for 60 days; members can arrange shipping.

What's the cancellation policy?

Reschedule free up to 24 hours before your slot. Inside 24 hours we can't refund the furnace time — the melt runs whether or not you make it.
