Follow the Documents. Hold Power to Account.

Nimbus is a reader-funded investigative newsroom. Every story is built on primary sources, verified data, and a methodology you can audit line by line.

Nimbus obtained 4,200 pages of procurement records through public-records requests filed across three jurisdictions. The documents, reviewed by two independent forensic accountants, trace a single shell company through nine public contracts worth $47 million.

The full evidence locker — every filing, every annotation, every redaction — is published alongside this investigation. Read the methodology first, then check our work.

What We Do

Journalism Built Like an Audit

Three desks, one standard: if we cannot show you the document, we do not publish the claim.

Deep-Dive Investigations

Months-long reporting built on filings, leaks, and on-the-record interviews — published in full, with every source cited and linked.

The Method

How an Investigation Is Built

The same three steps, in public, for every story we run.

Document

We obtain the primary record — filings, contracts, correspondence — and index every page in the evidence locker.

Verify

Two independent reviewers test each claim against its source before a story is allowed anywhere near an editor.

Publish

Findings run in full, footnoted, with the methodology and raw documents attached — and corrections logged in public.

What Readers Say

“They found the clause nobody had read — and then taught a Senate committee to read it too.”
Margaret Osei · Investigations Editor, The Ledger Review
“The methodology page is the story. You can rebuild every chart from raw data — that is trust you can audit.”
Daniel Roth · Director, Open Records Institute

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Nimbus funded?

Solely by readers. We accept no advertising, sponsorship, or political money of any kind, and we publish a full budget breakdown once a year so you can see exactly where your subscription goes.

Can I see the sources behind a story?

Yes. Every investigation ships with an evidence locker: original documents with redactions noted, the datasets behind each figure, and the complete methodology explained in plain language.

What happens when you get something wrong?

The correction runs at the top of the story, is entered in a public corrections register, and stays there permanently. Accuracy is a process we show you, not a claim we ask you to accept.
