## 1. STRICT RULES & ARCHITECTURE

### 1.1 CSS-First Architecture & Zero Inline CSS
Keep all styling strictly inside a dedicated `style.css`:
- **No Inline CSS:** the `style="..."` attribute is forbidden anywhere in the HTML.
- **Class/ID Selectors Only:** every design property, layout rule, and state must be targeted via class or ID selectors.
- **Minimal HTML Modifications:** HTML must remain clean, semantic, and style-agnostic — reskinning the entire page must require editing only `style.css`, never the markup.

### 1.2 CSS Variables (`var(--...)`) & Theme Tokens
Store all visual tokens in `:root` and reference them exclusively via `var(...)`:
- **Colors (exact mapping):**
  - `--primary: #E8C547` (Streetlamp Yellow — primary accent, CTAs, focus rings)
  - `--secondary: #3A5F7C` (Rainy Blue — secondary accent)
  - `--bg-primary: #0F0F0F` (Noir Black — page background)
  - `--bg-secondary: #161616` (elevated noir surface for cards/panels)
  - `--text-primary: #D4D4D4` (Fog White)
  - `--text-secondary: #9E9E9E` (fog-grey; do NOT use Smoke Grey `#4A4A4A` for text — it fails contrast on Noir Black; Smoke Grey is for borders only)
  - `--text-success: #E8C547`, `--text-error: #FF2D2D` (Neon Sign Red)
  - `--border-default: #4A4A4A`, `--border-error: #FF2D2D`, `--border-success: #E8C547`
  - **Extended noir accents:** `--accent-blood: #5C0A0A` (Blood Wine), `--accent-orange: #D4762C` (Cigarette Orange), `--accent-red: #FF2D2D`
- **Contrast Pairing:** every dark background token pairs with a light text token; the only light surface (Streetlamp Yellow) must always pair with Noir Black text. Enforce this pairing in every component.
- **Light Surfaces:** never use pure `#ffffff`; if a near-white surface is ever required, use `#fefefe`.
- **Radius & Shadows:** `--radius-sm: 2px`, `--radius-md: 4px`, `--radius-lg: 8px` (noir is angular — keep radii sharp), `--shadow-sm`, `--shadow-md`, plus `--shadow-vignette: inset 0 0 80px rgba(0,0,0,0.8)` and `--text-shadow-noir: 1px 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.9)`.
- **Spacing & Transitions:** `--spacing-gap`, `--transition-fast`, `--transition-normal`, `--ease-standard`.
- **Elevation/Stacking:** `--z-dropdown`, `--z-modal`, `--z-toast` — layered components (modal, toast) must never conflict.

### 1.3 Mandatory Dark Mode Support
- Dark mode is the default and only theme. Define the noir tokens identically under `:root`, a `.dark` class, and `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` so the noir presentation is invariant regardless of OS-level preference.
- Background and text variables must switch seamlessly without any HTML restructuring.
- **Explicit Exception:** the theme specification mandates "Light: ✗ No / Dark: ✓ Full" — this build is dark-only, so do not render a light-mode toggle and omit `localStorage` theme persistence; the dark tokens above are the single source of truth.

### 1.4 Flexbox Layout & Mobile-First Alignment
- Build every layout structure with Flexbox (`display: flex` / Tailwind flex utilities).
- **Default Alignment Rule:** every flex container defaults to `align-items: center` (`items-center`) unless an explicitly justified exception exists.
- **Mobile-Friendly First:** all flex layouts must be responsive out of the box — multi-column rows collapse to single columns on small viewports; horizontal scrolling is forbidden at every breakpoint.

### 1.5 Framework Default & Tailwind CSS Integration
- Use Tailwind CSS (or clean custom CSS driven by `@layer` / `@apply`).
- All utility classes must map back to the CSS variables or the generic reusable class names (`.btn`, `.card`, `.input-group`).

### 1.6 Typography & Icons (Google Fonts Mandatory)
- **Text:** load Google Fonts via `<link>` or `@import`: `Special Elite` (typewriter display face — headlines, brand, CTAs) and `Courier Prime` (legible typewriter body face). Bind `--font-display: 'Special Elite', cursive` per the style spec baseline, and `--font-base: 'Courier Prime', monospace` for long-form body copy where Special Elite would hurt legibility.
- **Icons:** Google Material Symbols only — raw inline SVGs and local icon files are forbidden. Noir-appropriate symbols: `search`, `fingerprint`, `visibility`, `policy`, `gavel`, `verified`, `check`, `close`, `mail`, `arrow_forward`.

## 2. COMPONENT DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

### 2.1 Button Component
Style every state via CSS classes:
- **Default:** `display: flex; align-items: center; justify-content: center; gap: 0.5rem;` with a minimum touch target of 44×44px. Variants: `.btn-primary` (Streetlamp Yellow background, Noir Black text), `.btn-secondary` (transparent, Smoke Grey border, Fog White text), `.btn-danger` (Blood Wine background, Neon Sign Red border).
- **Hover:** visible brightness/shadow shift — a streetlamp glow on `.btn-primary` (e.g., `box-shadow: 0 0 18px rgba(232,197,71,0.35)`) — with `cursor: pointer`.
- **Focus:** distinct focus ring from CSS variables (`outline`/`box-shadow` in Streetlamp Yellow) for keyboard navigation.
- **Active/Pressed:** `transform: scale(0.97)`.
- **Loading:** disables interactions, prevents double-clicks, renders a CSS spinner or animated Google Icon without distorting button dimensions.
- **Disabled:** `opacity: 0.5`, greyscale, `cursor: not-allowed`.
- **Success/Error:** temporary feedback states driven by `--text-success` / `--text-error`.

### 2.2 Card Component
- **Default:** flexible Flexbox layout with subtle Smoke Grey borders and elevation using `--bg-secondary` and CSS variables; style cards as noir "case file" panels (optional evidence-tag accent).
- **Hover:** elevation/shadow shift or subtle `transform: translateY(-2px)`.
- **Focus-within:** card borders highlight when a child link/button receives focus.
- **Loading (Skeleton):** shimmer animation defined purely in CSS to prevent layout jumps.
- **Empty State:** structured fallback featuring a Google Icon and clear guidance text.

### 2.3 Form & Input Requirements
- **States:** Empty, Focused (Streetlamp Yellow outline ring), Filled, Valid (success border + Material icon), Invalid (Neon Sign Red border, red text, error icon), Disabled, Read-only.
- **Structure:** Flex container wrapping a label, the input field, and a dedicated error feedback container; errors announced via `aria-live`.

### 2.4 Modal / Popup Requirements
- **States:** Opening, Open, Loading, Success/Error, Closing — all animated via CSS transitions.
- **UX Features:** centered flex container (`align-items: center`), backdrop overlay, Google Icon close button, keyboard focus trapping, close via `Esc` or overlay click. Implement at least one modal — the Final CTA signup confirmation ("case opened") or a pricing-tier "case file" detail view.

---

## 3. CORE UX & MICRO-INTERACTION RULES
- **Responsive by Default:** fluid sizing and breakpoints with zero horizontal overflow.
- **Smooth Animations:** `transition: var(--transition-normal)` on all state changes; fully respect `prefers-reduced-motion` — under reduced motion, disable rain streaks, film grain flicker, fog drift, and the typewriter reveal (render the full headline instantly).
- **Accessibility (a11y):** sufficient contrast in the dark theme (Fog White on Noir Black; never Smoke Grey text on dark surfaces); never rely on color alone to communicate state; semantic HTML5 elements; correct ARIA roles/labels on custom widgets (accordion, modal); logical DOM/focus order; full keyboard operability — no mouse-only interactions; `aria-live` regions for dynamic feedback (form errors, toasts, loading states). Include a visually-hidden "Skip to content" link.
- **Mandatory Visual Feedback:** every click, hover, or submission triggers a visible state change.
- **Destructive Actions:** `.btn-danger` / delete actions must be visually distinct (Blood Wine + Neon Sign Red) in the dark theme.

---

## 4. DELIVERABLE & OUTPUT FORMAT
- **File Structure:** separate `index.html`, `style.css`, `script.js`. No inline `<script>` blocks beyond a single deferred entry point (`<script src="script.js" defer></script>`).
- **Naming Convention:** one consistent convention across the entire deliverable — Tailwind utilities for layout plus the fixed reusable component classes (`.btn`, `.card`, `.input-group`, `.modal`, `.accordion`); any custom class names must be BEM, and conventions must never be mixed.
- **No Unrequested Placeholders:** lorem ipsum is forbidden — write every headline, paragraph, button label, FAQ answer, and legal line as finished English copy in a 1940s noir detective voice (rain-slicked streets, case files, shadows, secrets). Placeholder images (picsum) are permitted only for testimonial portraits and must be treated per §5.

---

## 5. THEME DIRECTION — "DETECTIVE NOIR" (1940s–1950s FILM NOIR)
- **Mood:** mysterious, cinematic, moody, high contrast. Keywords: film noir, detective, venetian blinds, shadows, rain, trench coat, crime.
- **Mandatory Visual Effects — all CSS-only, defined in `style.css`:**
  - **Venetian blind shadows:** hero/section overlay using exactly `background-image: repeating-linear-gradient(90deg, transparent 0px, transparent 30px, rgba(0,0,0,0.3) 30px, rgba(0,0,0,0.3) 32px)`.
  - **Rain streaks:** animated diagonal rain via layered gradients/pseudo-elements with keyframe translation; subtle, behind content, `pointer-events: none`.
  - **Film grain:** low-opacity CSS noise/flicker overlay across the page; must never reduce text legibility.
  - **Spotlight cones:** low-opacity Streetlamp Yellow gradient cones sweeping the hero.
  - **Dramatic vignette:** `box-shadow: inset 0 0 80px rgba(0,0,0,0.8)` on the hero and page edges.
  - **Typewriter animation:** hero headline revealed with `animation: typewriter 3s steps(40) forwards` plus a blinking caret; the step count must match the headline's character count, and the full text must remain accessible without JS or motion.
  - **Foggy background layers:** slow-drifting translucent grey gradient layers behind sections.
  - **Noir photography treatment:** any imagery receives `filter: grayscale(0.3) contrast(1.3)` plus a dark overlay.
- **Text treatment:** headline text-shadow `1px 1px 3px rgba(0,0,0,0.9)`; body copy stays clean and legible.

## 6. PAGE STRUCTURE & SECTION REQUIREMENTS
Build the sections in this exact order with semantic HTML5 landmarks (`<main>`, `<section>`, `<footer>`); do not add sections beyond this list:

### 6.1 Hero
Full-viewport noir scene: venetian blind overlay + spotlight cone + rain + vignette. Typewriter headline (e.g., "Every case leaves a trail. We follow it."), Fog White subcopy, primary CTA `.btn-primary` ("Open a Case") and secondary `.btn-secondary` ("See How We Work") that smooth-scrolls to §6.3.

### 6.2 Features — 3 Cards
Flexbox row (3-up desktop → 1-up mobile). Each `.card`: a Material Symbol in Streetlamp Yellow, a title, and copy. Noir angles: surveillance (`visibility`), evidence analysis (`fingerprint`), background checks (`search`).

### 6.3 How It Works — 3 Steps
Steps numbered 01/02/03 in Streetlamp Yellow, connected by a dashed Smoke Grey line (CSS-only). Steps: "Bring Us the Case" (`assignment`), "We Hit the Streets" (`travel_explore`), "You Get the Truth" (`verified`) — each with icon, title, copy.

### 6.4 Testimonials
Three quotes styled as typewritten witness statements: quote text, initials monogram avatar (Smoke Grey circle, Fog White initials) or grayscale-treated picsum portrait, name, and role. Label each as "Sworn Statement" for flavor.

### 6.5 Pricing — 3 Tiers
Three `.card` panels: "The Informant" (starter), "The Detective" (featured — Streetlamp Yellow border, "Most Popular" tag, visually elevated), "The Agency" (premium). Each tier: price, feature list with `check`/`close` Material icons, and a CTA (`.btn-primary` on the featured tier, `.btn-secondary` on the others).

### 6.6 FAQ
Accessible accordion with 4–6 noir-voiced Q&As (e.g., "How long does a case take?", "Is my information confidential?"). Toggle buttons carry `aria-expanded` + `aria-controls`; panels expand/collapse via CSS transitions; fully keyboard operable.

### 6.7 Final CTA
Dramatic closing scene: spotlight cone + fog + vignette; typewriter-style headline (e.g., "The truth is out there. Let's go get it."); email capture form using `.input-group` — label, input, error container, `.btn-primary` submit with a Loading state. Invalid email triggers the Invalid input state with an `aria-live` error ("That address doesn't check out."); success triggers the Success state plus an `aria-live` toast confirmation ("Case opened. Watch the shadows.").

### 6.8 Footer
Secondary links in grouped columns (The Agency: Features, Pricing, FAQ; The Precinct: About, Careers, Contact; The Fine Print: Privacy, Terms, Cookies), Material Symbol social icons, copyright line, and small print in `--text-secondary`. All links show visible hover and focus feedback.
