# SYSTEM PROMPT — CODING AGENT BRIEF

**Project:** "KARESANSUI — A Dry Garden" Landing Page
**Your Role:** Senior Frontend Engineer & Expert UI Designer. You will produce the complete, production-ready landing page on the first attempt. Follow every rule in this document exactly. Where a rule and your habit conflict, the rule wins.

---

## 1. THEME DEFINITION & DESIGN DIRECTION

**1.1 Concept — KARESANSUI (枯山水)**
Build a minimal/zen landing page inspired by the Japanese dry garden: raked gravel, weathered stone, stillness, and deliberate emptiness. The page should feel like composed sand — quiet, ordered, and precise. Design era: 2020s contemporary. Output discipline: **Minimalism & Swiss** — strict grid alignment, generous whitespace, restrained ornamentation, disciplined typographic hierarchy, and 1px hairline rules as the only structural decoration.

**1.2 Color Token Mapping (Light Theme — DEFAULT)**
Map the supplied palette to CSS variables exactly as follows:

| Token | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| `--bg-primary` | `#F4EEE1` | Raked-sand paper (page background) |
| `--bg-secondary` | `#EDE5D3` | Deeper sand (cards, panels, alt bands) |
| `--text-primary` | `#2B2721` | Sumi ink (headings, body) |
| `--text-secondary` | `#6B6154` | Weathered stone (secondary copy) |
| `--primary` | `#2B2721` | Primary action surface (ink buttons) |
| `--on-primary` | `#F4EEE1` | Text on primary surfaces |
| `--secondary` | `#C2AE8B` | Aged-timber accent (badges, highlights, gradients) |
| `--accent-soft` | `#E8DCC8` | Soft sand accent (gradient stops, fills) |
| `--border-default` | `rgba(43, 39, 33, 0.12)` | Hairline borders |
| `--text-success` | `#4A6B4F` | Muted moss |
| `--text-error` | `#A04B38` | Fired clay |
| `--border-success` | `rgba(74, 107, 79, 0.5)` | Success border |
| `--border-error` | `rgba(160, 75, 56, 0.5)` | Error border |

**1.3 Color Token Mapping (Dark Theme — MANDATORY)**
Define the complete dark counterpart under both `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` and a `.dark` class on `<html>`:

| Token | Value |
|---|---|
| `--bg-primary` | `#1B1814` (night-garden charcoal-brown) |
| `--bg-secondary` | `#241F1A` |
| `--text-primary` | `#F4EEE1` |
| `text-secondary` | `#A79C8B` |
| `--primary` | `#E8DCC8` (inverted: sand button on dark) |
| `--on-primary` | `#26221C` |
| `--secondary` | `#D3BF9C` |
| `--accent-soft` | `#3A332B` |
| `--border-default` | `rgba(244, 238, 225, 0.14)` |
| `--text-success` | `#8FB58A` |
| `--text-error` | `#D98B78` |

**Contrast pairing is mandatory in BOTH themes:** every light background token pairs with dark text tokens, every dark background token pairs with light text tokens. Never use `#ffffff` anywhere; if a near-white is required, use `#fefefe`.

**1.4 Typography (Google Fonts — mandatory)**
Load via `<link>` with `preconnect`: **Cormorant Garamond** (weights 400, 500, 600 — display serif) and **Inter** (weights 400, 500, 600 — body). Optionally load **Noto Serif JP** (weight 400) for the Japanese kanji accent 枯山水 in the hero. Bind: `--font-display: "Cormorant Garamond", serif;` and `--font-base: "Inter", sans-serif;`. Typographic discipline: eyebrow labels in uppercase with `letter-spacing: 0.2em` and `font-size: 0.75rem`; display headings use `clamp()` fluid sizing (e.g., hero H1 `clamp(2.5rem, 6vw, 4.5rem)`); body text `1rem–1.125rem` with `line-height: 1.7`.

**1.5 Visual Effects Language**
* **Raked-sand gradients:** Build the ambient background from layered CSS gradients only — a base of `--bg-primary`, a subtle ripple texture using `repeating-linear-gradient` (2px lines of `rgba(194,174,139,0.10)` spaced ~18px apart), and 2–3 large blurred radial-gradient "stones" (`#E8DCC8` / `#C2AE8B` at low opacity, softened with `filter: blur(60px)` on positioned pseudo-elements). No image files.
* **Glass effect:** Translucent panels using `backdrop-filter: blur(14px) saturate(1.1)` (with `-webkit-backdrop-filter`), `background: var(--glass-bg)` (`rgba(244,238,225,0.55)` light / `rgba(36,31,26,0.55)` dark), and a 1px `--glass-border` (`rgba(255,255,255,0.45)` light / `rgba(244,238,225,0.10)` dark). Glass must always sit over a gradient area so the blur is visible.
* **Neumorphism (soft, restrained):** Dual box-shadows on sand surfaces — light token `--shadow-neu-light: rgba(255,255,255,0.85)` and dark token `--shadow-neu-dark: rgba(107,97,84,0.18)` (dark theme: `rgba(255,255,255,0.04)` / `rgba(0,0,0,0.5)`). Use for icon discs, the theme toggle, and button surfaces — subtle, never heavy.
* **Hover effects:** Every interactive element responds — cards lift (`translateY(-2px)` + deeper shadow), buttons shift brightness, links animate underlines, chevrons rotate. All via `transition: var(--transition-normal)`.

**1.6 Copy Voice**
Write all user-facing copy in **English**, in a short, declarative, contemplative zen voice (e.g., hero H1: "Stillness, raked into form." — Features titled around concepts like "Ma (間) — The Space Between"). **No lorem ipsum anywhere.** All copy must be original, coherent, and theme-appropriate.

## 2. STRICT ARCHITECTURE RULES

**2.1 CSS-First & Zero Inline CSS**
* All styling lives in `style.css`. **The `style="..."` attribute is forbidden in all HTML.**
* Target everything via class or ID selectors. HTML stays semantic and styling-agnostic: a full retheme must be achievable by editing `style.css` alone.
* No presentational markup; no wrapper divs whose only purpose is styling when a semantic element or pseudo-element suffices.

**2.2 CSS Variables & Theme Tokens**
Store every token in `:root` (light) and override in `.dark` / the dark media query. Required set: all color tokens from §1.2–1.3, plus `--radius-sm: 8px`, `--radius-md: 16px`, `--radius-lg: 28px`, `--shadow-sm`, `--shadow-md`, `--shadow-neu-light`, `--shadow-neu-dark`, `--glass-bg`, `--glass-border`, `--spacing-gap: 1.5rem`, `--spacing-section: clamp(4rem, 10vw, 7.5rem)`, `--transition-fast: 150ms`, `--transition-normal: 320ms`, `--ease-standard: cubic-bezier(0.25, 0.8, 0.25, 1)`, `--z-dropdown: 50`, `--z-modal: 100`, `--z-toast: 150`. No hard-coded colors, shadows, or durations in component rules — always `var(--...)`.

**2.3 Mandatory Dark Mode**
* **Light mode is this theme's default presentation**, but dark mode must be fully defined and fully functional — every component, gradient, glass panel, and neumorphic shadow must have a verified dark counterpart.
* Provide a visible theme toggle (sun/moon Google Material Symbols) in the header with correct `aria-pressed` and `aria-label` states.
* Persist choice in `localStorage`; on first visit fall back to `prefers-color-scheme`. Theme switching must not cause HTML restructuring, flash of wrong theme, or layout shift.

**2.4 Flexbox Layout & Mobile-First Alignment**
* Build all layout structures with Flexbox. **Every flex container defaults to `align-items: center`** unless an explicitly justified exception is documented in a CSS comment.
* Mobile-first: all multi-column flex rows wrap to columns below ~768px. **Horizontal scrolling is forbidden at every viewport width from 320px up.** Use fluid `clamp()` sizing and `max-width: 72rem` container with consistent horizontal padding.

**2.5 Styling Approach — Single Convention**
Use clean custom CSS organized with **BEM naming as the one and only convention** (e.g., `.hero`, `.hero__title`, `.features__grid`, `.card`, `.card__icon`, `.btn--primary`, `.btn--ghost`, `.faq__item`, `.faq__panel`). Never mix conventions; never invent classes for elements that don't exist. Tailwind utilities are not used in this build.

**2.6 Icons — Google Material Symbols Only**
Load Google Material Symbols (Outlined) via `<link>`. Use `<span class="material-symbols-outlined">icon_name</span>` for every icon. **Raw inline SVGs, local icon fonts, and emoji icons are forbidden.**

## 3. COMPONENT SPECIFICATIONS

**3.1 Buttons (`.btn`, modifiers `.btn--primary`, `.btn--ghost`, `.btn--block`)**
* **Default:** `display: flex; align-items: center; justify-content: center; gap: 0.5rem;` minimum touch target 44×44px, `border-radius: var(--radius-md)`, `font-family: var(--font-base)`, `cursor: pointer`.
* **Hover:** brightness/shadow shift via `filter` or `box-shadow`.
* **Focus:** distinct visible focus ring built from CSS variables (`outline` or `box-shadow`), never removed.
* **Active/Pressed:** `transform: scale(0.97)`.
* **Loading:** class `.is-loading` — disables interaction, prevents double-clicks, swaps the label for a CSS spinner or animated Material Symbol, and **must not change button dimensions**.
* **Disabled:** `opacity: 0.5`, greyscale filter, `cursor: not-allowed`.
* **Success/Error:** `.is-success` / `.is-error` temporary feedback states driven by `--text-success` / `--text-error` (used by the newsletter submit).
* No destructive actions exist on this page; `.btn-danger` is not required.

**3.2 Cards (`.card` — features, testimonials, pricing)**
* **Default:** flexible flexbox column layout, `background: var(--bg-secondary)` or glass tokens, 1px `--border-default` border, `border-radius: var(--radius-lg)`, `--shadow-sm`.
* **Hover:** `transform: translateY(-2px)` + `--shadow-md` transition.
* **Focus-within:** border color shifts to `--secondary` when a child link/button receives focus.
* Skeleton/empty states are not applicable to this static build — do not invent them.

**3.3 Form & Input (newsletter capture in the Final CTA)**
* **Structure:** flex container wrapping a visually-hidden-but-accessible `<label>`, the email `<input>`, a dedicated error message container (`aria-live="polite"`), and the submit `.btn`.
* **States — all styled via CSS classes:** empty, focused (outline ring from variables), filled, valid (`--border-success` + check Material Symbol), invalid (`--border-error`, error text in `--text-error`, error icon), disabled, read-only.
* **Behavior:** on submit, validate email format; on failure show the inline error in the live region; on success run the button's loading state (~1.2s simulated), then `.is-success` with an `aria-live` confirmation message, then reset. No real backend.

**3.4 FAQ Accordion (`.faq`)**
* Each item: a `<button>` with `aria-expanded` and `aria-controls`, the question text, and a Material Symbol `expand_more` chevron that rotates 180° on open.
* Panels animate open/closed via CSS only (e.g., `grid-template-rows: 0fr → 1fr` or `max-height` transition) with `transition: var(--transition-normal)`.
* Fully keyboard operable; one item open at a time; panels use `role="region"` and `aria-labelledby`.

**3.5 Theme Toggle (`.theme-toggle`)**
Neumorphic pill/circle with sun and moon Material Symbols, `aria-pressed` reflecting state, `aria-label` announcing action, smooth icon cross-fade transition.

**3.6 Not In Scope**
No modals, popups, dropdown menus, or toasts are required. Do not add them.

## 4. SECTION-BY-SECTION LAYOUT SPECIFICATION

**4.0 Header (sticky, `.header`)**
Glass bar (`backdrop-filter`) fixed/sticky at top with `z-index: var(--z-dropdown)`. Contents: a CSS-drawn logo mark (an "enso" ring — a circle with `border` and a gradient mask, no SVG) + wordmark "KARESANSUI", anchor links (Features, Process, Testimonials, Pricing, FAQ), the theme toggle, and a compact primary CTA "Begin". Below 768px: links collapse into a hamburger button (`aria-expanded`, `aria-controls`) opening a glass slide-down panel; panel closes on `Esc` and link click; focus moves into the panel on open and returns to the hamburger on close.

**4.1 Hero (`.hero`)**
`min-height: 90vh` flex column, centered. Background: full §1.5 gradient composition (sand base + ripple texture + blurred stone blobs). Content stack: eyebrow "枯山水 · KARESANSUI", serif H1, one supporting paragraph (max ~60 words), a flex row of two CTAs — `.btn--primary` "Enter the Garden" and `.btn--ghost` "View Pricing" — wrapping to column on mobile. Add a scroll cue: Material Symbol `arrow_downward` inside a neumorphic circle with a gentle 2s float animation (disabled under reduced motion).

**4.2 Features (`.features`) — 3 cards**
Section header pattern (used for every section): eyebrow + serif H2 + short intro paragraph, centered. Then a flex row (wrap → column on mobile) of three `.card` components. Each card: a neumorphic circular icon disc containing a Material Symbol (e.g., `grain`, `spa`, `water_drop`), an H3, body copy, and a hairline divider. Cards use glass styling over the ambient gradient band.

**4.3 How It Works (`.steps`) — 3 steps**
Three steps in a flex row joined by a 1px hairline connector (horizontal desktop, vertical mobile). Each step: an oversized serif numeral ("01", "02", "03") in `--secondary`, an H3, and a description. Steps sit on `--bg-secondary` with soft neumorphic elevation.

**4.4 Testimonials (`.testimonials`) — 3 quotes**
Flex row of three glass cards. Each: Material Symbol `format_quote` in `--secondary`, the quote, a hairline, then a flex row with a CSS-gradient avatar circle containing the person's initials (no images), name in `--text-primary`, and role in `--text-secondary`.

**4.5 Pricing (`.pricing`) — 3 tiers**
Three `.card` components; the middle tier is **featured**: visually elevated (slightly larger padding, `--shadow-md`, a `--secondary` accent border or ink-filled header band) with a "Most Chosen" badge. Each tier: name, price with period, a feature list where each item pairs a Material Symbol `check` with text, and a CTA — `.btn--primary` on the featured tier, `.btn--ghost` on the others. Buttons anchor to the Final CTA section.

**4.6 FAQ (`.faq`)**
Centered single-column list (max-width ~48rem) of 5–6 accordion items per §3.4, separated by hairlines, on the glass/gradient band.

**4.7 Final CTA (`.cta`)**
Full-width glass panel centered over the strongest ambient gradient composition on the page. Serif H2, supporting paragraph, then the newsletter form per §3.3, followed by a one-line privacy microcopy in `--text-secondary`.

**4.8 Footer (`.footer`)**
An inverted band: background `--primary` with `--on-primary`/`--bg-primary` text (verify this pairing holds in dark mode — in dark theme the footer may instead use `--bg-secondary` with standard pairing; never let contrast drop). Contents: brand block (logo mark + one-line tagline), three groups of secondary links (Product, Company, Resources), social icons as Material Symbols (`language`-style generic icons in neumorphic circles with proper `aria-label`s), and a bottom bar with copyright, a "Back to top" link, and the theme toggle repeated. All footer links must have visible hover and focus states.

## 5. CORE UX & MICRO-INTERACTION RULES

* **Responsive by default:** fluid `clamp()` typography and spacing; zero horizontal overflow from 320px upward; all flex rows collapse to columns on small viewports.
* **Smooth animations:** every state change transitions with `transition: var(--transition-normal)` and `var(--ease-standard)`. Wrap all non-essential motion in `@media (prefers-reduced-motion: no-preference)` and provide a `prefers-reduced-motion: reduce` block that disables transforms, floats, and shimmer.
* **Scroll reveal:** use `IntersectionObserver` to add a `.is-visible` class revealing sections with a soft fade/translate. Progressive enhancement only: `script.js` must add a `js` class to `<html>` at startup, and hidden initial states apply **only** under `.js` — content must be fully visible if JavaScript fails.
* **Accessibility (a11y):** semantic HTML5 landmarks (`header`, `nav`, `main`, `section` with `aria-labelledby`, `footer`); a skip-to-content link; strict heading hierarchy (one `h1`); contrast ≥ 4.5:1 for text in **both** themes; never communicate state by color alone (pair color with icons/text); full keyboard operability with visible `:focus-visible` rings on every interactive element; `aria-live` regions for all dynamic feedback (form success/error, theme change).
* **Mandatory visual feedback:** every click, hover, focus, and submission produces a visible state change. No dead interactive elements.

---

## 6. DELIVERABLES & OUTPUT FORMAT

* **Files:** exactly three — `index.html`, `style.css`, `script.js`. The HTML references `style.css` in `<head>` and a **single** `<script src="script.js" defer></script>` before `</body>`. No inline `<script>` blocks, no inline styles, no other assets.
* **`script.js` scope:** theme toggle + persistence, mobile nav, FAQ accordion, newsletter form validation + simulated submit, smooth anchor scrolling, scroll-reveal observer. Nothing else.
* **Naming:** BEM exclusively, per §2.5.
* **Copy:** complete original English copy in the §1.6 voice for every section — real headlines, feature descriptions, step explanations, testimonial quotes, tier names/prices/features, FAQ questions/answers, and footer labels. No lorem ipsum, no placeholder brackets.
* **Self-check before submitting:** zero `style=` attributes; zero inline SVGs; zero hard-coded hex values outside `:root`/theme blocks; dark mode verified for every component; no horizontal scroll at 320px; all buttons/inputs/accordions keyboard-operable; reduced-motion respected.
