## 0. PROJECT BRIEF & SECTION SPECIFICATIONS

**Theme:** Versus Mode Anime Aesthetic — dynamic, competitive, high-octane, arcade fighting era.
**Keywords:** anime, versus, fighting, game, split, dynamic, action, slash.
**Category:** Art & Illustration — the entire page must feel like a cel-shaded anime fighting game "versus screen," illustrated purely with CSS. No external image assets.

**Signature techniques (mandatory, from the approved style spec):**
- Diagonal panels via `clip-path: polygon(10% 0, 100% 0, 100% 100%, 0% 100%)` (corner-cut) and similar jagged polygons.
- `transform: skew(-10deg)` on badges, HUD elements, CTAs, and display typography (un-skew inner text where legibility requires it).
- `border: 2px solid #ffcc00` gold outlines as the structural border language.
- Split-screen P1 Blue / P2 Red dichotomy, fighting-game HUD elements, elemental energy effects, hard comic-book shadows.

**Section-by-section requirements (build in this exact order):**

- **Hero — "VS Split Screen":** Full-viewport section split diagonally into two clip-path halves over the `#1a0f1f` base — left half charged with Player 1 Blue (`#00ccff`), right half with Player 2 Red (`#ff0055`). Center: a massive skewed "VS" emblem in Russo One, gold (`#ffcc00`), hard offset shadow, subtle pulse animation. Each half hosts a **CSS-constructed fighter avatar**: jagged clip-path frame, layered gradient "cel" fill, a large Google Material Symbol glyph as the fighter emblem, name plate, and P1/P2 tag. A fighting-game HUD strip runs across the top: two skewed health bars (animated fill on page load), round-win pips, and a "99" timer — decorative HUD parts marked `aria-hidden="true"`. Headline and subheadline written in arcade-announcer voice. Two CTAs: primary **"Enter the Arena"** (gold) and secondary **"Watch Trailer"** (ghost, P2 red accent) that opens the trailer modal (see 2.4).
- **Features — 3 cards:** Jagged clip-path cards with 2px gold borders and hard shadows. Each card carries a Material Symbol icon, title, and copy. Per-card accent: card 1 gold, card 2 P1 blue, card 3 P2 red (border + icon color). Hover shifts elevation and border intensity.
- **How It Works — 3 steps:** Styled as a combo chain — skewed badges labeled "ROUND 1", "ROUND 2", "FINAL ROUND" in gold, connected by diagonal CSS lines. Each step: icon, title, description.
- **Testimonials:** Styled as fighter-select "player cards" — CSS avatar frame, gamer tag, rank badge (Energy Green `#00ff00`), quote, and star rating rendered with Material Symbols.
- **Pricing — 3 tiers:** Tiers named "Rookie", "Challenger", "Champion". Middle tier highlighted: gold border, skewed "MOST POPULAR" banner, slight scale-up. Feature lists use Material Symbol check icons; each tier has its own CTA button.
- **FAQ:** Accessible accordion — each item is a `<button>` with `aria-expanded` controlling a collapsible region; skewed question badges; smooth CSS height transition.
- **Final CTA:** Full-bleed jagged banner echoing the blue/red split; headline in the vein of "READY? FIGHT!"; an email-capture form (label + input + error container + submit) that exercises every form state defined in 2.3, with a visible success state.
- **Footer with secondary links:** Multiple link columns, Material Symbol social icons, a mini VS emblem, and copyright line. Every link has visible hover and focus states.

## 1. STRICT RULES & ARCHITECTURE

**1.1 CSS-First Architecture & Zero Inline CSS**
- All styling lives in `style.css`. **Forbidden:** any `style="..."` attribute and any inline `<style>` block.
- Target all design properties, layout rules, and states exclusively via class or ID selectors.
- HTML must remain semantic and style-agnostic: reskinning the page requires editing only `style.css`, never the markup.

**1.2 CSS Variables & Theme Tokens**
Define every visual token in `:root`:
- **Colors:** `--bg-primary: #1a0f1f`, `--bg-secondary: #251533`, `--bg-elevated: #2f1c40`, `--text-primary: #ffffff`, `--text-secondary: #c9b8d8`, `--primary: #ffcc00` (gold), `--secondary: #00ccff` (P1 blue), `--p1: #00ccff`, `--p2: #ff0055`, `--energy: #00ff00`, `--text-success: #00ff00`, `--text-error: #ff0055`, `--border-default: rgba(255,204,0,0.35)`, `--border-accent: #ffcc00`, `--border-error: #ff0055`, `--border-success: #00ff00`.
- **Contrast pairing (enforced):** Light backgrounds (gold, blue, green) pair with dark text (`#1a0f1f`); dark backgrounds pair with light text. Verify ≥ 4.5:1 for body text and ≥ 3:1 for large display text.
- **Radius & shadows:** `--radius-sm: 0`, `--radius-md: 0`, `--radius-lg: 0` — this theme is jagged; shape comes from clip-path, not rounding. Shadows are hard offset (comic style): `--shadow-sm: 4px 4px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.55)`, `--shadow-md: 8px 8px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.55)`, plus accent hard shadows such as `--shadow-p1: 6px 6px 0 #00ccff` and `--shadow-p2: 6px 6px 0 #ff0055`. No blur on structural shadows; soft glows are reserved for elemental energy accents only.
- **Spacing & transitions:** `--spacing-gap: 1.5rem`, `--transition-fast: 150ms`, `--transition-normal: 300ms`, `--ease-standard: cubic-bezier(0.34, 1.56, 0.64, 1)` (punchy overshoot).
- **Elevation:** `--z-dropdown: 100`, `--z-modal: 1000`, `--z-toast: 1100` — layered components must never collide.

**1.3 Mandatory Dark Mode**
Dark mode is the sole mode and is fully defined as the default `:root` token set. **Exception (source spec: "Light: No / Dark: Full"):** do not build a light-mode variant or a theme toggle — but every color must remain behind a CSS variable so the palette stays swappable via CSS alone.

**1.4 Flexbox Layout & Mobile-First Alignment**
- Build every layout structure with Flexbox. Every flex container defaults to `align-items: center` unless a specific exception is justified in comments (e.g., card content columns using `stretch` for full-width text blocks).
- Mobile-first: multi-column rows collapse to single columns at ≤ 768px. **Never allow horizontal scrolling.** Reduce skew angles and clip-path complexity on small viewports via media queries so no text is ever clipped.

**1.5 Framework Default**
Use clean, hand-authored custom CSS in `style.css`, organized with `@layer` blocks (`tokens`, `base`, `layout`, `components`, `utilities`). Define reusable component classes — `.btn`, `.card`, `.input-group`, `.accordion`, `.modal` — all driven by the CSS variables above. No CSS frameworks, no CDN config scripts.

**1.6 Typography & Icons (Google Fonts Mandatory)**
- Load **Google Fonts** via `<link>`: `Russo One` (display identity — headings, HUD, buttons, badges) bound to `--font-display`, paired with `Chakra Petch` for body copy bound to `--font-base` for legibility. Russo One remains the dominant identity font.
- Icons: **Google Material Symbols (Outlined)** via `<link>`. **Explicitly forbidden:** raw inline SVGs and local icon files. Fighter avatars are CSS-constructed (clip-path frames + gradients + Material Symbol glyphs), not images.

## 2. COMPONENT DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

**2.1 Button Component**
- **Default:** `.btn` — `display: flex; align-items: center; justify-content: center; gap: 0.5rem;` minimum touch target 44×44px, skewed or corner-cut container, Russo One label, `transition: var(--transition-normal)`. Variants: `.btn--gold` (gold bg, dark text), `.btn--p1` (blue bg, dark text), `.btn--p2` (red bg, white bold text), `.btn--ghost` (transparent, gold border).
- **Hover:** brightness shift + hard-shadow offset change; `cursor: pointer`.
- **Focus:** distinct `:focus-visible` ring — 3px gold outline with 3px offset — never removed.
- **Active/Pressed:** `transform: scale(0.97)`.
- **Loading (`.is-loading`):** disables interaction and double-clicks, sets `aria-busy="true"`, renders a CSS spinner (rotating Material Symbol `progress_activity` or border spinner) without changing button dimensions.
- **Disabled:** `opacity: 0.5`, grayscale filter, `cursor: not-allowed`.
- **Success/Error:** temporary `.is-success` / `.is-error` feedback tinted by `--text-success` / `--text-error`, always pairing an icon + text with the color — never color alone.

**2.2 Card Component**
- **Default:** Flexbox layout, `--bg-secondary` fill, `--border-default` edges sharpening to `--border-accent` on emphasis, hard shadow, jagged clip-path silhouette.
- **Hover:** `transform: translateY(-2px)` plus shadow growth.
- **Focus-within:** border brightens when any child link/button receives focus.
- **Loading (Skeleton):** `.card--skeleton` shimmer keyframe defined in CSS with stable dimensions to prevent layout jumps.
- **Empty State:** `.card--empty` fallback with a Material Symbol and clear guidance text.

**2.3 Form & Input Requirements**
- `.input-group` is a flex container wrapping: a `<label>`, the input field, and a dedicated `.input-group__error` container with `aria-live="polite"`.
- Style all states via classes: empty, focused (gold outline ring), filled, valid (green border + check icon), invalid (red border + error icon + message text), disabled, read-only.
- The Final CTA email form must implement every state with vanilla JS validation.

**2.4 Modal / Popup Requirements**
- The "Watch Trailer" CTA opens a trailer modal with all states animated via CSS transitions: **opening** (fade + scale in), **open**, **loading** (spinner inside a 16:9 placeholder frame), **success/error**, **closing** (reverse animation).
- Centered flex container (`align-items: center`), dark backdrop overlay, Material Symbol `close` button, `role="dialog"` + `aria-modal="true"`, keyboard focus trapping, close via `Esc` and overlay click, and focus returned to the trigger on close.
- The 16:9 frame is a clearly labeled demo placeholder for the video asset (the only permitted placeholder — the asset was genuinely unspecified).

## 3. CORE UX & MICRO-INTERACTION RULES

- **Responsive by default:** fluid `clamp()` typography, responsive breakpoints, zero horizontal overflow.
- **Smooth animations:** every state change transitions with `var(--transition-normal)`; all motion (VS pulse, health-bar fill, scroll reveals, shimmer) is disabled under `prefers-reduced-motion`.
- **Accessibility (a11y):** maintain contrast in the dark theme; never rely on color alone for state; use semantic HTML5 landmarks (`main`, `section` with `aria-labelledby`, `footer`, `nav`), a skip link, logical DOM/focus order, full keyboard operability for accordion, modal, and forms, and `aria-live` regions for form errors and dynamic feedback.
- **Mandatory visual feedback:** every hover, click, toggle, and submission triggers a visible state change.
- **Destructive actions:** `.btn--danger` uses P2 red and must be visually distinct against the dark background.
- **Art-direction rules (cel-shaded comic aesthetic):** hard offset shadows only for structure; 2px+ solid borders; halftone dot texture via `radial-gradient` patterns; speed lines via low-opacity `repeating-linear-gradient`; controlled energy glows (blue/red/green) reserved for elemental accents; scroll-triggered section reveals via IntersectionObserver adding an `.is-visible` class.

## 4. DELIVERABLE & OUTPUT FORMAT

- **File structure:** separate `index.html`, `style.css`, and `script.js`. No inline `<script>` blocks beyond the single deferred entry point: `<script src="script.js" defer>`.
- **Naming convention:** BEM only (`.block__element--modifier`) across the entire deliverable — never mix conventions.
- **Copy:** all user-facing copy in English, written in the arcade fighting-game announcer voice; real labels and content everywhere — lorem ipsum is prohibited.
- **JS scope:** vanilla JavaScript only — accordion toggling, modal open/close with focus trap, email validation, scroll reveals, and HUD load animation. No libraries.
- **No unrequested placeholders:** the labeled trailer video frame in the modal is the sole permitted placeholder.
