## 0. PROJECT BRIEF & DESIGN DIRECTION

* **Theme:** "ENIGMA — rotors & lamps" — a fictional industrial-grade encryption product styled after the Enigma cipher machine.
* **Output Category:** Industrial & Mechanical. Copy tone: precise, mechanical, engineering-grade (e.g., "Encryption, engineered like a machine.").
* **Visual Style:** Neumorphism (soft-UI) with subtle gradients. Era: 2020s Digital.
* **Signature Motif:** The page must visibly celebrate **rotors** (stepping letter dials) and **lamps** (glowing indicator lights). The Hero contains a CSS-built Enigma panel: three neumorphic rotor dials and a lampboard grid of glowing lamps. No images required — build it with HTML/CSS.
* **Sections (in this order):** Sticky Header/Nav → Hero → Features (3 cards) → How It Works (3 steps) → Testimonials → Pricing (3 tiers) → FAQ → Final CTA → Footer with secondary links.
* **Palette Mapping (Light = primary/default theme):**
  * Backgrounds: `--bg-primary: #e8dcc8` (warm parchment — never pure white), `--bg-secondary: #efe4d2` (raised neumorphic surface), inset/pressed surface: `#ddd0b8`.
  * Text: `--text-primary: #1c1610`, `--text-secondary: #5a4530`.
  * Accents: `--primary: #423322` (opaque accent), `--secondary: #5a4530`, `--accent-deep: #382a1a`.
  * **Special token:** The spec's `#42332200` is a fully transparent 8-digit hex. Define it as `--primary-glaze: #42332200` and use it only for transparent hover tints/overlays; use opaque `#423322` wherever solid color is needed.
  * **Lamp glow:** Derive one warm amber glow token (e.g., `--lamp-glow`) from the secondary family for "lit" lamp states; it must read clearly against both themes.
* **Neumorphism Shadow Formula (mandatory):** Raised elements use dual shadows — a light source top-left, dark bottom-right (Light mode: `box-shadow: 8px 8px 16px var(--shadow-dark), -8px -8px 16px var(--shadow-light)` with `--shadow-light: rgba(254,254,254,0.65)`). Pressed/inset elements invert the formula. Dark mode recalculates both shadows for dark surfaces.
* **Gradients:** Subtle only — a soft radial wash behind the Hero, a faint conic sheen on rotor dials, and a gentle gradient on the Final CTA banner. No loud rainbow gradients.

## 1. STRICT RULES & ARCHITECTURE

### 1.1 CSS-First Architecture & Zero Inline CSS
* **No Inline CSS:** The `style="..."` attribute is forbidden anywhere in the HTML.
* **Class/ID Selectors Only:** All design properties, layout rules, and states are targeted via class or ID selectors in `style.css`.
* **Minimal HTML Modifications:** HTML stays clean, semantic, and style-agnostic. Re-theming the site must require editing only the CSS file.

### 1.2 CSS Variables (`var(--...)`) & Theme Tokens
All visual tokens live in `:root` (Light) and are overridden under `.dark` and `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)`:
* **Required tokens:** `--primary`, `--secondary`, `--bg-primary`, `--bg-secondary`, `--text-primary`, `--text-secondary`, `--text-success`, `--text-error`, `--border-default`, `--border-error`, `--border-success`, `--radius-sm`, `--radius-md`, `--radius-lg`, `--shadow-sm`, `--shadow-md`, `--spacing-gap`, `--transition-fast`, `--transition-normal`, `--ease-standard`, `--z-dropdown`, `--z-modal`, `--z-toast`.
* **Additional neumorphism tokens:** `--shadow-light`, `--shadow-dark`, `--neu-shadow-out`, `--neu-shadow-in`, `--primary-glaze`, `--lamp-glow`, `--font-base`, `--font-mono`.
* **Contrast Pairing:** Every light background token pairs with dark text tokens and every dark background token pairs with light text tokens — enforced in both themes, not just the default.
* **Light Mode Background:** Never `#ffffff`; the parchment `#e8dcc8` family is the base. Where a near-white is unavoidable, use `#fefefe`.
* **Success/Error tokens:** Choose muted, warm-harmonized green/red values that pass WCAG AA contrast on both parchment and near-black backgrounds.

### 1.3 Mandatory Dark Mode Support
* **Exception clause:** The source spec marks Light as the primary theme (✓ Light / ○ Dark). Light is therefore the **default on first visit**, but full Dark Mode support remains mandatory.
* **Implementation:** Define dark tokens under both `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` and a `.dark` class on `<html>`. Dark palette: `--bg-primary: #120e0a`, `--bg-secondary: #1c1610`, text `#e8dcc8` / muted `#b3a184`, with recalculated neumorphic shadows (near-black dark shadow, faint `rgba(254,254,254,0.04)` light shadow).
* **Theme Switching:** All variables swap seamlessly with zero HTML restructuring.
* **Persistence:** Store the user's choice in `localStorage`; fall back to `prefers-color-scheme` on first visit. Header contains a visible toggle (Material sun/moon icon) with correct `aria-pressed` and `aria-label` state.

### 1.4 Layout — CSS Grid + Flexbox, Mobile-First
* **CSS Grid (macro layouts):** page container, Hero two-column split, Features/Testimonials/Pricing card rows (`grid-template-columns: repeat(auto-fit, minmax(280px, 1fr))`), the lampboard, and Footer link columns.
* **Flexbox (components):** nav, buttons, card internals, form groups, step rows.
* **Default Alignment Rule:** Every flex container defaults to `align-items: center` unless an explicitly justified exception exists (document the exception in a CSS comment).
* **Mobile-Friendly First:** All grids collapse to single columns on small viewports; rows convert to columns. Zero horizontal scrolling at any width from 320px up.

### 1.5 Framework Default & Tailwind CSS Integration
* Use Tailwind CSS via CDN (or clean custom CSS driven by `@layer` / `@apply`). All utilities must map back to the CSS variables above or to generic reusable classes (`.btn`, `.card`, `.input-group`, `.nav`, `.accordion__item`).
* Do not let utility classes hardcode hex values — colors always resolve through `var(--...)`.

### 1.6 Typography & Icons (Google Fonts Mandatory)
* **Text:** Load Google Fonts via `<link>`: **Space Grotesk** (or Archivo) for headings/body, bound to `--font-base`; **IBM Plex Mono** bound to `--font-mono` for rotor letters, eyebrow labels, stats, prices, and step numbers.
* **Icons:** Google Material Symbols only. Raw inline SVGs and local icon files are forbidden.

## 2. COMPONENT DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

### 2.1 Button Component Requirements
Style all states via CSS classes (`.btn`, `.btn--primary`, `.btn--secondary`, `.btn--danger`):
* **Default:** Flex layout (`display: flex; align-items: center; justify-content: center; gap: 0.5rem;`), minimum 44×44px touch target, raised neumorphic surface.
* **Hover:** Brightness/shadow shift with `cursor: pointer`.
* **Focus:** Distinct `:focus-visible` ring built from CSS variables — neumorphic shadows alone never indicate focus.
* **Active/Pressed:** Invert to the inset neumorphic shadow plus `transform: scale(0.97)` — the button must feel physically depressed like a machine key.
* **Loading:** Disables interaction, prevents double-clicks, renders an animated CSS spinner or spinning Google Icon without changing button dimensions.
* **Disabled:** `opacity: 0.5`, greyscale, `cursor: not-allowed`.
* **Success/Error:** Temporary feedback states driven by `--text-success` / `--text-error`.
* **`.btn--danger`** must be defined and visually distinct in both themes even if unused on this page.

### 2.2 Card Component Requirements
Applies to Features, Testimonials, and Pricing cards:
* **Default:** Grid/Flex layout, neumorphic raised surface using `--bg-secondary`, subtle `--border-default` border (never rely on shadow alone to delineate interactive cards).
* **Hover:** Elevation shift or `transform: translateY(-2px)`.
* **Focus-within:** Card border highlights when a child link/button receives focus.
* **Loading (Skeleton):** Define shimmer keyframes in CSS for reusable skeleton cards.
* **Empty State:** Define a fallback layout with a Google Icon and guidance text.

### 2.3 Form & Input Requirements
Used by the Final CTA email capture:
* **States:** Empty, Focused (outline ring), Filled, Valid (success border + Material check icon), Invalid (error border, `--text-error` message, error icon), Disabled, Read-only.
* **Structure:** Flex container wrapping a `<label>`, input field (inset neumorphic well), and a dedicated error feedback element with `aria-live="polite"`.
* **Submission:** Simulate async submit — button enters Loading, then resolves to Success (or Error for invalid email). All feedback announced via `aria-live`.

### 2.4 Modal / Popup Requirements (conditional)
If you introduce any overlay (e.g., a "Watch the Machine" demo modal), it must implement: Opening/Open/Closing CSS transitions, centered flex container, backdrop overlay, Google Icon close button, keyboard focus trapping, and close via `Esc` or overlay click. If no modal is in scope, omit it entirely — do not add one speculatively.

### 2.5 Landing Page Section Specifications
* **Header/Nav:** Sticky neumorphic bar. Logo (Material icon + "ENIGMA" wordmark), anchor links to all sections, theme toggle, CTA button. Below 768px, collapse to an accessible hamburger (aria-expanded, keyboard operable).
* **Hero:** Two-column grid. Left: mono eyebrow label, H1, subcopy, dual CTAs (`.btn--primary` "Start Encrypting" + `.btn--secondary` "See How It Works"), mono stat row. Right: the **Enigma panel** — a large neumorphic enclosure containing (a) three rotor dials: circular inset wells, each with a conic-gradient sheen and a mono letter window; clicking a rotor or pressing ArrowUp/ArrowDown steps its letter with a `transform` transition; expose them as buttons with `aria-label` that updates (e.g., "Rotor I, current setting B"); and (b) a lampboard: CSS Grid of 26 small lamps labeled A–Z in mono font, a subset "lit" with `--lamp-glow` and a slow staggered flicker animation — static under `prefers-reduced-motion`.
* **Features (3 cards):** Material icon inside an inset neumorphic circle, title, mechanical-toned copy (e.g., rotor-based key derivation, lamp-verified delivery, plugboard-style access control).
* **How It Works (3 steps):** Numbered `01 / 02 / 03` in mono, connected by a track line (horizontal on desktop, vertical on mobile), each with icon and copy.
* **Testimonials:** 3 neumorphic cards; avatars are initial letters in inset circles (no external images), quote, name, role, and a small "verified" lit-lamp indicator.
* **Pricing (3 tiers):** Middle tier visually elevated with an inset "MOST DEPLOYED" badge. Include a Monthly/Annual neumorphic segmented toggle (`aria-pressed`, prices update in `--font-mono` with an `aria-live="polite"` announcement). Each tier: name, price, feature list with Material check icons, CTA button.
* **FAQ:** 5–6 themed questions as an accessible accordion — each item is a `<button aria-expanded aria-controls>` header (rotating Material chevron) plus a region animated via CSS `grid-template-rows` or `max-height` transition. Fully keyboard operable.
* **Final CTA:** Gradient-sheened neumorphic banner with headline and the email form from 2.3.
* **Footer:** Grid of secondary link columns (Product, Company, Resources) with realistic English labels, brand block with tagline, Material social icons, and copyright line.

## 3. CORE UX & MICRO-INTERACTION RULES

* **Responsive by Default:** Fluid sizing, breakpoints at ~1024/768/480px, no horizontal overflow anywhere.
* **Smooth Animations:** `transition: var(--transition-normal)` on all state changes; every hover, click, toggle, and submission produces visible feedback. Respect `prefers-reduced-motion` (disable flicker, rotor spin, and reveal motion).
* **Accessibility (a11y):** WCAG AA contrast in both themes; never communicate state by color alone (pair color with icons, text, or shape); semantic HTML5 landmarks (`header`, `main`, `section`, `footer`); logical DOM/focus order; full keyboard operability; `aria-live` regions for form feedback, pricing toggle, and rotor settings.
* **Scroll Reveal:** Subtle IntersectionObserver-driven reveal on section entry (translate + fade), disabled under reduced motion.
* **Destructive Actions:** `.btn--danger` styling must be distinct in both themes.

---

## 4. DELIVERABLE & OUTPUT FORMAT

* **File Structure:** Separate `index.html`, `style.css`, `script.js`. No inline `<script>` blocks beyond one deferred `<script src="script.js" defer></script>` entry point. No inline styles anywhere.
* **Naming Convention:** Strict BEM (`block__element--modifier`) across HTML and CSS — never mix conventions.
* **Copy:** Write all user-facing copy in **English**, themed to the ENIGMA product with an Industrial & Mechanical tone. No lorem ipsum; no unrequested placeholders.
* **Definition of Done:** Light mode renders by default; dark mode toggles and persists; every interactive element (nav, rotors, lamps, toggle, accordion, pricing switch, form, buttons) is keyboard accessible and visually responsive in both themes.
