## 1. STRICT RULES & ARCHITECTURE

**1.1 CSS-First Architecture & Zero Inline CSS**
- All styling must live in a dedicated `style.css`. **Forbidden:** any `style="..."` attribute in HTML.
- Target everything via class or ID selectors. HTML must remain semantic and style-agnostic — changing the theme must require editing only the CSS file.

**1.2 CSS Variables & Theme Tokens**
Store all tokens in `:root` using the Papercut palette below, mapped to the canonical variable names (`--primary`, `--bg-primary`, `--text-primary`, `--border-default`, etc.) in addition to the theme-specific names:

```css
:root {
  --color-bg: #fbf3e7;          /* maps to --bg-primary */
  --color-surface: #fff9f0;     /* maps to --bg-secondary */
  --color-surface-strong: #ffe8cc;
  --color-border: #e3c9a3;      /* maps to --border-default */
  --color-text: #3b2c22;        /* maps to --text-primary */
  --color-text-muted: #6b5847;  /* maps to --text-secondary */
  --color-primary: #e8623d;     /* maps to --primary */
  --color-accent: #4f9c8e;      /* maps to --secondary */
  --color-torn-shadow: rgba(59, 44, 34, 0.18);
  --color-success: #4f9c8e;     /* --text-success */
  --color-error: #c0392b;       /* --text-error */
  --radius-sm: 4px; --radius-md: 8px; --radius-lg: 14px; --radius-pill: 999px;
  --shadow-sm: 2px 3px 0 rgba(59,44,34,0.12), 0 2px 6px rgba(59,44,34,0.1);
  --shadow-md: 4px 6px 0 rgba(59,44,34,0.14), 0 6px 14px rgba(59,44,34,0.12);
  --shadow-lg: 6px 10px 0 rgba(59,44,34,0.16), 0 12px 28px rgba(59,44,34,0.14);
  --spacing-gap: 16px;
  --transition-fast: 0.15s; --transition-normal: 0.25s;
  --ease-standard: cubic-bezier(0.34, 1.56, 0.64, 1);
  --z-dropdown: 10; --z-modal: 100; --z-toast: 1000;
  --font-sans: 'Quicksand', 'Comic Neue', system-ui, sans-serif;
  --font-display: 'Caveat', 'Comic Neue', cursive;
  --torn-edge-clip: polygon(0% 2%, 3% 0%, 8% 3%, 14% 0%, 20% 2%, 27% 0%, 34% 3%, 41% 0%, 48% 2%, 55% 0%, 62% 3%, 69% 0%, 76% 2%, 83% 0%, 90% 3%, 97% 0%, 100% 2%, 100% 98%, 96% 100%, 90% 98%, 83% 100%, 76% 98%, 69% 100%, 62% 98%, 55% 100%, 48% 98%, 41% 100%, 34% 98%, 27% 100%, 20% 98%, 14% 100%, 8% 98%, 3% 100%, 0% 98%);
  --fold-line: linear-gradient(90deg, transparent 0%, rgba(59,44,34,0.08) 50%, transparent 100%);
}
```

- **Contrast pairing:** every background token must pair with a readable text token in every theme. Never use pure white — use `#fefefe` / `#fff9f0` where near-white is needed.

**1.3 Mandatory Dark Mode**
The source spec does not declare modes — therefore you MUST define and validate both light and dark before delivering:
- Define a dark palette under both `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` and a `.dark` class: deep warm brown backgrounds (e.g., `#241a13` bg, `#2f2219` surface, `#3b2c22` surface-strong), light cream text (`#f5e9d8`, muted `#c4b09a`), keep `--color-primary: #e8623d` and `--color-accent: #4f9c8e` (verify contrast; lighten if needed), and reduce torn-shadow alpha for dark.
- Provide a visible theme toggle with correct `aria-pressed` / `aria-label` state. Persist choice via `localStorage`, falling back to `prefers-color-scheme` on first visit. Theme switching must not require HTML restructuring.

**1.4 Flexbox Layout & Mobile-First**
- Build all layouts with Flexbox. Every flex container defaults to `align-items: center` unless justified otherwise.
- All rows (features, pricing, steps, testimonials) must collapse to single-column stacks on small viewports. No horizontal scrolling at any width.

**1.5 Framework**
Use clean custom CSS driven by the provided component classes (`.nav`, `.btn`, `.btn--primary`, `.card`, `.input`, `.badge`) — extend them with BEM-style modifiers (`.card--pricing`, `.step__number`, etc.). Keep one consistent naming convention throughout.

**1.6 Typography & Icons (Google Fonts Mandatory)**
- Load **Quicksand** (base) and **Caveat** (display headings) via Google Fonts `<link>`; bind to `--font-sans` / `--font-display`.
- Use **Google Material Symbols** for all icons. **Forbidden:** raw inline SVGs or local icon files.

## 2. PAPERCUT STYLE DIRECTION (Signature Moves)

- **Layered paper depth:** soft offset drop shadows (`--shadow-sm/md/lg`) simulating stacked paper on cards, nav, buttons, badges.
- **Torn edges:** apply `clip-path: var(--torn-edge-clip)` to the nav, cards, and hero panel. Note: `clip-path` clips shadows — where a torn edge needs a visible shadow, simulate depth with a pseudo-element (`::before`) offset behind the element using `--color-torn-shadow`.
- **Fold lines:** use `--fold-line` as subtle background gradients on section dividers or card accents.
- **Tactile micro-motion:** buttons lift and tilt on hover (`translateY(-2px) rotate(-1deg)`); cards lift `translateY(-2px)` with shadow escalation. Respect `prefers-reduced-motion: reduce` by disabling all transforms/transitions.
- **Storybook tone:** Caveat display headings, warm pastel stock, slightly rotated decorative elements (badges, step numbers) for hand-crafted feel — keep rotations ≤ 2deg and never rotate text blocks.

## 3. COMPONENT STATE REQUIREMENTS

**3.1 Buttons** — Default: flex, `align-items: center; justify-content: center; gap: 0.5rem`, min 44×44px touch target. Hover: lift + tilt + `--shadow-md`. Focus-visible: `outline: 2px solid var(--color-primary); outline-offset: 2px`. Active: `scale(0.97)` reset. Loading: disabled + CSS spinner (border-based) preserving dimensions. Disabled: `opacity: 0.5; cursor: not-allowed`. `.btn--danger` (e.g., none needed here, but define it) must be visually distinct in both themes.

**3.2 Cards** — Default: `.card` with torn-edge clip, `--shadow-md`, `--color-surface` bg. Hover (interactive cards): `translateY(-2px)` + `--shadow-lg`. Focus-within: border/outline highlight when a child link/button is focused. Pricing "featured" tier gets `.card--featured` with `--color-surface-strong`, `--shadow-lg`, and a `.badge` ("Most Popular").

**3.3 Forms & Inputs** — The Final CTA email capture must use `.input` with: empty, focused (primary border + ring), filled, valid (accent border + check Material Icon), invalid (error border, error text, error icon, `aria-live="polite"` error container), disabled states. Wrap label + input + error in a flex column.

**3.4 FAQ** — Use native `<details>/<summary>` (or button + region with `aria-expanded`), each styled as a small paper card; smooth CSS open/close animation; keyboard operable; chevron Material Icon rotating on open.

**3.5 Testimonials** — Quote cards with torn edges, Caveat attribution, avatar placeholder via Material Icon in a paper circle.

## 4. UX, A11Y & DELIVERABLES

- **Accessibility:** semantic HTML5 (`header`, `main`, `section`, `footer`, `nav`), one `<h1>`, logical heading hierarchy, WCAG-AA contrast in BOTH light and dark, full keyboard operability, `aria-live` for form feedback, never color-only state communication.
- **Visual feedback:** every click/hover/submission triggers a visible state change.
- **Animations:** `transition: var(--transition-normal) var(--ease-standard)` on state changes; honor `prefers-reduced-motion`.
- **Copy:** write all user-facing copy in **English**, on-theme (craft/storybook voice — e.g., "Cut, fold, create"). No lorem ipsum.
- **Files:** `index.html`, `style.css`, `script.js` (theme toggle, FAQ behavior if not native details, form validation feedback). No inline `<script>` beyond one deferred entry point.
- **Responsive:** mobile-first, no horizontal overflow, fluid type via the provided `--text-*` scale.
