## 0. ART DIRECTION & DESIGN TOKENS (MANDATORY)

**0.1 Canonical Token Set**
Define all visual tokens as CSS variables. The following names are required exactly:

* **Colors (Dark theme — the default aesthetic):** `--bg-primary: #0a0a0c`, `--bg-secondary: #17151c`, `--surface-strong: #211c29`, `--border-default: #ff2fb0`, `--text-primary: #f5f2fa`, `--text-secondary: #b9aecb`, `--primary: #ff2fb0` (hot pink), `--secondary: #ccff00` (acid green), `--electric: #7a2fff` (extra theme token), `--text-success: #ccff00`, `--border-success: #ccff00`, `--text-error: #ff5d5d`, `--border-error: #ff5d5d`.
* **Colors (Light theme — derived "glitter-paper" variant, since the source spec does not declare modes):** `--bg-primary: #fdf0f8`, `--bg-secondary: #fbe4f3`, `--surface-strong: #f6d8ec`, `--border-default: #ff2fb0`, `--text-primary: #1c0515`, `--text-secondary: #7a5580`, `--primary: #ff2fb0`, `--secondary: #ccff00`, `--electric: #7a2fff`, `--text-success: #557a00`, `--border-success: #557a00`, `--text-error: #c40033`, `--border-error: #c40033`. Never use pure white (`#ffffff`); the pale pink above is the light background.
* **Contrast Pairing (enforced in BOTH themes):** hot-pink fills (`#ff2fb0`) always pair with dark text `#1a0212`; acid-green fills (`#ccff00`) always pair with dark text `#111a00`; dark surfaces always pair with light text; light surfaces always pair with dark text. Verify every fill/text combination.
* **Radius:** `--radius-sm: 2px`, `--radius-md: 10px`, `--radius-lg: 18px`, `--radius-pill: 999px`. Radii are intentionally scattered across components (never one uniform radius) for the DIY feel.
* **Shadows (neon glow = elevation):** `--shadow-sm: 0 0 6px rgba(255,47,176,0.45)`, `--shadow-md: 0 0 18px rgba(255,47,176,0.5), 0 4px 14px rgba(0,0,0,0.6)`, `--shadow-lg: 0 0 32px rgba(255,47,176,0.55), 0 10px 26px rgba(0,0,0,0.7)`.
* **Spacing & Motion:** `--spacing-gap: 16px`, plus a scale (`--space-1: 4px` through `--space-24: 96px`), `--transition-fast: 150ms`, `--transition-normal: 300ms`, `--ease-standard: cubic-bezier(0.34, 1.56, 0.64, 1)` (bouncy).
* **Stacking:** `--z-dropdown: 1000`, `--z-modal: 2000`, `--z-toast: 3000`.
* **Theme-specific extras (required):** `--checkerboard: repeating-conic-gradient(...) 0 0 / 16px 16px` (dark: `#1c1822`/`#0a0a0c`; light: `#f6d8ec`/`#fdf0f8`), `--neon-text-glow: 0 0 8px rgba(255,47,176,0.8), 0 0 18px rgba(255,47,176,0.4)`.

**0.2 Signature Moves (repeat across nav, cards, buttons, footer)**
* Hot-pink neon glow via `box-shadow` only — never `filter: blur` (keep it crisp).
* Checkerboard strips via the `--checkerboard` token.
* Leopard print (optional, decorative panels/step numbers) built purely from layered CSS `radial-gradient`s — no image assets.
* Glitter/sparkles: Google Material Symbols icons (`sparkle`, `auto_awesome`, `favorite`, `skull`) and/or a CSS twinkle keyframe on pseudo-elements.
* Subtle DIY tilt: `rotate(-1deg)`–`rotate(1deg)` on hover for cards/buttons (max 2deg; never impair readability).

**0.3 Copy Tone**
All user-facing copy in **English**. Angsty-playful 2000s scene slang ("totally not a phase", "keep it loud", "xXx", "Top 8", "rawr"), confident and fun, but readable and never offensive — keep the angst playful; no slurs, no self-harm references. Write real copy for every section; lorem ipsum is forbidden.

## 1. STRICT RULES & ARCHITECTURE

**1.1 CSS-First Architecture & Zero Inline CSS**
* All styling lives in `style.css`. The `style="..."` attribute is forbidden in HTML.
* Target everything via class/ID selectors. HTML stays semantic and style-agnostic — reskinning must require touching only CSS.

**1.2 CSS Variables & Theme Tokens**
* Every color, radius, shadow, spacing, transition, and z-index value must come from a `var(--...)` token defined in Section 0. No hard-coded hex values inside component rules.

**1.3 Mandatory Dark Mode Support**
* The source spec does not declare modes — you must validate the page in **both light and dark** before publishing.
* Implementation: light tokens in `:root`; dark tokens in a `.dark` class **and** in `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` applied via `:root:not(.light)` so the explicit class always wins.
* Persistence: store the user's choice in `localStorage`; on first visit fall back to `prefers-color-scheme`. Provide a visible toggle button in the nav (Material Symbol `dark_mode`/`light_mode`) with correct `aria-pressed` and `aria-label` states.

**1.4 Flexbox Layout & Mobile-First Alignment**
* Build all layout structures with Flexbox. Every flex container defaults to `align-items: center` unless an exception is explicitly justified in a CSS comment.
* Mobile-first: rows collapse to columns on small viewports; wrapping enabled; zero horizontal scrolling at any width.

**1.5 Framework & Naming Convention**
* Use clean custom CSS with reusable component classes (`.nav`, `.btn`, `.card`, `.input`, `.badge`) exactly in the spirit of the provided reference spec. BEM modifiers for variants (`.btn--primary`, `.card--featured`). One convention (BEM) across the entire deliverable — never mix conventions.

**1.6 Typography & Icons (Google Fonts Mandatory)**
* Text fonts from Google Fonts via `<link>`: base = **'Comic Neue'** (Comic Sans-adjacent); display = **'Permanent Marker'** (DIY marker chaos). Bind to `--font-base` and `--font-display`. *Explicit exception clause:* you may append the theme's original local stack (`'Comic Sans MS', 'Chalkboard SE', 'Trebuchet MS'` / `'Jokerman', 'Impact'`) as trailing fallbacks after the Google Fonts.
* Icons: Google Material Symbols (Rounded style) only. Inline SVGs and local icon files are forbidden. Use icons such as `favorite`, `skull`, `sparkle`, `bolt`, `music_note`, `star`, `check`, `send`, `dark_mode`, `light_mode`.

## 2. COMPONENT DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

**2.1 Button (`.btn`, `.btn--primary`, `.btn--secondary`, `.btn--danger`)**
* **Default:** `display: flex; align-items: center; justify-content: center; gap: 0.5rem;` bold Comic Neue, 2px hot-pink border, `--shadow-sm`, minimum touch target 44×44px. `.btn--primary`: pink fill + dark text `#1a0212` + acid-green border + `--shadow-md`.
* **Hover:** `transform: rotate(-1deg) scale(1.04)` + glow upgrade to `--shadow-md`, `cursor: pointer`.
* **Focus:** `:focus-visible` outline `2px solid var(--secondary)` with `outline-offset: 3px` (use `--electric` in light mode if acid-green contrast fails).
* **Active:** `transform: scale(0.97)`.
* **Loading:** class-based state that disables interaction, prevents double-clicks, and renders an animated Material `progress` icon or CSS spinner without changing button dimensions.
* **Disabled:** `opacity: 0.5`, greyscale, `cursor: not-allowed`, no transform.
* **Success/Error:** temporary feedback styles driven by `--text-success` / `--text-error` tokens.
* **Danger:** `.btn--danger` uses neon red, visually distinct in both themes.

**2.2 Card (`.card`)**
* **Default:** `--bg-secondary` surface, 2px `--border-default` border, `--radius-lg`, `--shadow-md`, `--space-6` padding, checkerboard strip along the top edge (per reference spec: layered background technique), flex column layout.
* **Hover:** `translateY(-2px)` + glow shift + subtle tilt (≤2deg).
* **Focus-within:** border brightens when a child link/button receives focus.
* **Loading:** skeleton shimmer keyframe that preserves layout dimensions.
* **Empty State:** fallback layout with a Material icon and clear guidance text.

**2.3 Form & Input (`.input`, used in the Final CTA newsletter signup)**
* **States:** empty, focused (acid-green border + `--shadow-sm` ring), filled, valid (success border + `check` icon), invalid (error border, red text, `error` icon), disabled, read-only. Default field style: 2px dashed `--electric` border, `--radius-sm`, `--surface-strong` background.
* **Structure:** flex container wrapping a visible `<label>`, the input, and a dedicated error-feedback element wired to an `aria-live="polite"` region.

**2.4 FAQ Accordion (and any overlay)**
* Build the FAQ with native `<details>`/`<summary>` (or ARIA `button` + `region` pattern), animated open/close via CSS transitions, rotating chevron/sparkle icon, fully keyboard operable, no mouse-only interactions.
* If any modal/popup is introduced: centered flex overlay, backdrop, Material icon close button, focus trapping, `Esc` and backdrop-click closing, animated opening/closing, `--z-modal` stacking.

---

## 3. CORE UX & MICRO-INTERACTION RULES

* **Responsive by default:** fluid sizing, standard breakpoints, zero horizontal overflow.
* **Smooth animations:** `transition: var(--transition-normal)` on all state changes; all tilts, sparkles, and shimmer effects disabled under `prefers-reduced-motion: reduce`.
* **Accessibility:** WCAG-AA contrast in both light and dark modes; never communicate state by color alone (pair color with icons/text); semantic HTML5 landmarks (`header`, `nav`, `main`, `section`, `footer`); logical focus order; full keyboard operability; `aria-live` regions for form feedback.
* **Mandatory visual feedback:** every click, hover, and submission triggers a visible state change.
* **Readability guardrail:** neon text glow (`--neon-text-glow`) is reserved for display headings only; body copy stays clean at ≥ 4.5:1 contrast.

---

## 4. DELIVERABLE & OUTPUT FORMAT

* **Files:** separate `index.html`, `style.css`, `script.js`. Only one `<script src="script.js" defer>` reference — no inline script blocks.
* **Head:** Google Fonts + Material Symbols `<link>` tags with `preconnect`.
* **script.js (vanilla JS only, no libraries):** theme toggle with `localStorage` persistence + `prefers-color-scheme` fallback; FAQ accordion enhancement; newsletter validation with `aria-live` success/error feedback; smooth-scroll for nav anchors.
* **Naming:** BEM only, consistent everywhere.
* **Copy:** real English copy per Section 0.3 — no lorem ipsum; placeholders only where content was genuinely unspecified.

## 5. PAGE SECTION BLUEPRINT (build top to bottom)

1. **Sticky Nav (`.nav`):** display-font wordmark with neon glow, anchor links (Features, How It Works, Testimonials, Pricing, FAQ), theme toggle (per 1.3), `.btn--primary` "Join the Scene". Checkerboard strip below. Collapses gracefully on mobile.
2. **Hero:** pill badge ("est. 2006 ★ totally not a phase"), giant `--font-display` headline with `--neon-text-glow`, angsty subhead, two CTAs (`.btn--primary` + `.btn--secondary`), decorative heart/skull/sparkle icons, checkerboard strip, social-proof line.
3. **Features — 3 cards:** each with a Material icon (e.g., `music_note` "Profile Songs That Slap", `favorite` "Top 8 Forever", `sparkle` "Glitter Everywhere"), title, copy. Card style per 2.2.
4. **How It Works — 3 steps:** numbered chips (01/02/03) in leopard-print or checkerboard styling, connected by a dashed `--electric` line, title + copy each.
5. **Testimonials — 3 quotes:** scene-kid handles in xXx style, filled `star` icon ratings, quote cards, CSS-only circular avatars (initial letter on pink with glow — no external images).
6. **Pricing — 3 tiers:** "Scene Kid" (free), "Top 8" (featured — `.card--featured` with `--shadow-lg` and a "Most Tragic" badge), "Full Emo" (premium). Feature lists with `check` icons; one `.btn` per tier; the featured tier must be distinct in both themes.
7. **FAQ:** 5–6 questions built per 2.4.
8. **Final CTA:** large neon banner card — headline, copy, newsletter form per 2.3, success state ("You're in the club ★ check your inbox").
9. **Footer:** checkerboard top strip, secondary link columns (Product, Community, Legal — link to page anchors where targets exist), Material-icon social links, copyright line with scene flair ("made with ★ and angst").
